New York Fashion Week: Not Just for Kitten Heels, But Actual Kittens?
In a Google consumer survey asking people to describe cat owners, nearly 43 percent said they are “weird or quirky,” proving the ‘crazy cat lady’ trope is still alive and kicking. California-based pet brand Fresh Step Litter wants to change that, and chose a rather ingenious way to do so.
During last month’s New York Fashion Week, Fresh Step Litter debuted its Hot to Adopt campaign with a fun, feline-inspired fashion show. The campaign aims to celebrate cat love while also helping eliminate the many barriers found in cat adoption. In partnership with actress and self-proclaimed cat-lover, Katie Cassidy, the show featured models in themed fashion, carrying adoptable cats. “From cat-eye glasses and leopard prints to kitten heels and cat-faced flats, feline-inspired fashions have infiltrated runways for many years,” Cassidy said.
“Typically, cat owners aren’t described by their style, but that’s about to change with the launch of the Hot to Adopt campaign, where felines and fashion are coming together to support cat adoption.” Limited edition #hot2adopt t-shirts were also unveiled at the show, with proceeds going towards shelters and rescues country-wide.”
While consumers are loving their pets (and showing it) more than ever, there still exists plenty of negative stereotypes regarding breeds of all types, making the adoption process more difficult than it needs to be. It’s heartwarming to see brands and retailers like Fetch Eyewear and Project Blue Collar are making it their mission to change that.
“With millions of cats entering shelters each year and less than half getting adopted, Fresh Step is on a mission to help every shelter cat find a forever home, because we understand how rewarding it is to have cats in our lives,” said Nick Meyer, Director of Marketing for Fresh Step’s parent company, Clorox Pet products.
