Jewelry Trends for Spring/Summer 2017 Materials and Key Motifs: Pavé, Textural Finishes, Snakes and Orbs

Hubba’s specially created Buyer’s Checklist continues. This week, retailers and brands hoping to up the ante and drive sales can discover trending materials and key motifs for Spring/Summer 2017.

The key theme for materials this season is ‘grunge glamour’. Surfaces have a rustic, aged feel. Whether it be pavé stones of differing scales or pearls found in unexpected contexts. From emerging brands through to established runway designers, plastic is setting a new standard of luxury with its ability to achieve fantastic colour and shapes. Antique jewels also become inspiration for a new take on vintage where contemporary shapes are contrasted with classic materials.

Motifs are a hugely important aspect of jewelry. Based on emerging designers and influential brands and apparel trends, we have narrowed down some of the key motifs to watch. Snakes represent the update to the new mysticism and spiritual trend that we have seen through raw-cut crystals and crucifixes over the past seasons. Letters are key in the personalization trend we have been seeing across other accessories areas. Leaves are the new flower motif and orbs continue to evolve across all items and price ranges. Finally, earrings and pendants are inspired by artists such as Alexander Calder.
