Here’s How to Convert Instagram Followers to Paying Customers

 

Instagram is a great place to gain brand exposure for small businesses. You’ve worked really hard on the design of your product, and posting beautiful product and lifestyle images is a great way to boost your brand following and insert a reminder into the lives of your fans. Now, what if you could make one simple move to convert that audience from idle fans, admiring your product from their couches… to paying customers?

Now you can. There are solutions arising for small businesses to incorporate a shopping experience into their Instagram account. With 31% of American women heading to Instagram for inspiration and motivation in nearly every area of their lives – fashion, home and fitness inspiration, cute kitten photos, the list goes on – it was only a matter of time before small business owners like yourself decided to leverage that untapped market.

One of my favorite brands to do this is LA-based clothing and accessories brand ban.do. Each time they post a product shot to Instagram, they also upload it to their special Insta-shop page along with the product links to each item in the photo. The page is built into their website, but only accessible when you have the direct link, which they’ve posted in their Instagram bio. Check it out here.

Although it will take a bit of time and effort to build and maintain the page, the result makes it easy to find the products your followers want without any fuss. It’s an important step in your e-commerce customer experience as 75% of Instagrammers will take action (like checking out your website) if they like what they see… but not many actually stay to purchase a product. It’s important to make things as easy as possible for customers to buy your stuff.

Use a third party platform to manage the flow for you.

There are companies that make it super easy for you to convert your followers to paying customers without a lot of effort by either of you. The concept is pretty simple: you register with the third party and work with them to set up your catalog in their system, and then tag them in your lifestyle shots. From then on, their users (all 2.1 million of them) can simply like your photo and get an email sent to their inbox with all of your product details!
